Is there a way to think about an urban image that ebbs and flows with the city itself, in response to being viewed? What could the shape of this kind of representation be?
16thandmission.com takes as a starting point the question of what such a view of an integrated urban environment will look like. It brings harvested live bus schedule data into representations of the space itself, and highlights the degree to which continually updated data plays a part in images of the urban environment.
The project asserts that the source for an active urban portrait is to be found not in one image or text, or even in a series of these, but in a kind of ongoing, mutually reinforceable, interactive, integrated environment, where the complex interrelationships between the myriad ebbs and flows of urban space can be explored at length.
