This is a stunning data visualization project from the Digital Scholarship Lab at the University of Richmond: historical maps updated with rich data sets. Students show the forced migration of American slaves and how it correlates to crops grown. And they map the traffic on the trails that led pioneers west (you can see the Gold Rush and how fast migration petered out). They promise more on redlining during the Great Depression and urban renewal in the 1960s and 1970s.
