Background

After more than 30 years of publishing their annual immunization report, WHO called on Stamen to bring a new and improved visual approach to their storytelling for their 2016 Immunization Progress Report, which we maintained over multiple years.

What we made

The compelling visualizations we created tell a complicated story, showing progress in immunizations in some areas –  India, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo — while at the same time showing the devastating collapse of immunization programs in areas of ongoing conflict such as Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine. Overall, the visualizations illustrate the fact that in 2016, many countries still struggled to achieve high immunization coverage, particularly in the African, Eastern Mediterranean and South East Asian regions.

Stamen’s work on this report led to a second engagement on their 2017 report.
