Stamen collaborates with artists and arts organizations to create innovative, data-driven projects that blend art, design and technology. Notable works include SFMOMA’s ArtScope, an interactive tool for exploring thousands of artworks, Cabspotting, which visualizes live taxi data for the Exploratorium and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and Watercolor Maps, which turn geographical data into visually stunning, hand-painted-style maps acquired by the Smithsonian National Design Museum. In collaboration with the J Paul Getty Institute and artist Ed Ruscha, Stamen visualized decades of automatic photographs documenting Los Angeles’s Sunset Boulevard, merging archival materials with cutting-edge design.
